Hi there! Welcome to ...
Step 2
A Domain Name ...
is an address where people find you on the internet.
It usually looks something like this:
mydomain.com
mydomain.org
mydomain.net
mydomain.info
mydomain.biz
and so on ……..
The part IN FRONT OF the DOT is like the name of the house where you live.
The part AFTER the DOT is like the name of the street where you live.

|
So ...
think it through like this:
- When you want to get in touch with EVERYBODY,
you try for the DOT COM street of the internet, since COM stands for Communication, and is the most popular street.
- If you are going to operate a business,
it is usual to put it on the
DOT BIZ - street of the Internet.
- If you are letting people know about your organization,
it is usual to put it
on the Organization - or DOT ORG - street of the Internet.
- If you are setting up a network of some kind,
it is usual to put it on the
Network - or DOT NET - street of the Internet.
- If yours is an information site,
you might put it on the Information - or DOT
INFO - street of the Internet.

|
Sometimes ...
if you want nobody else to use your "house name" - the part before
the DOT - you arrange for all of the "street" names to belong to you, so
whatever "street name" your viewers type in, they will come to your "house".
There are other "street" names I have not mentioned here. Some of them belong
to the country where you live. Others are used because the owner really wants
that "house" name, but it's no longer available on the popular "streets". |
Now you're ready for ...
